Natural History Museum reviews
22 Well l have nothing to write about because I didn't get to visit as it was closed while it was clearly said it is open in this page plus the contact you provided couldn't reach
So it would be better if you take care of your page as first and the place is also quite unmanaged and dirty when I visited last tim
It is a small museum but has a lot of things on display. There are fossils and specimen of animals, birds, and plants found in Nepal and from other parts of the world. It was an interesting experience. Anyone who is interested in wildlife will enjoy visiting this museum. You have to buy a ticket to enter. If you are visiting Swoyambhu, you should visit this place as well because it is very close.
A medium sized museum with an excellent collection of botany and biology details. Great place for people and kids interested in Biology field. Had a great experience. Tickets can be purchased at the counter. Located near the monkey temple.
Love all the skulls, taxidermies and all the preserved animals and birds and plants. If you love biology, visit this place. Trust me on this one. I had a great time here.
Great collection of taxidermy animals. Space is a bit congested and some specimens are not maintained properly. But overall a great value for a small entrance fee. Worth a visit, if you are visiting syambhunath temple.
Very good when it's emptied specially in week days but I went when everything was closed but got in because I was with school
A unique thing. But one should have sufficient time while visiting this. The University should digitise it and make video to make it popular and increase awareness of the society specially academic community.
Natural History Museum of Nepal is situated on the lap of Swayambhu stupa, a world heritage site in the west hillock of Kathmandu valley. Swayambhu hillock is itself a famous place not only in the context of the culture, religion and history of Kathmandu valley, but also equally famous place for the early plant hunters in Nepal.
The mission of the Natural History Museum, Tribhuvan University is to inspire natural science research of national/international significance; to serve a research and educational facilities with timely environmental information relating natural history to present-day environmental and cultural issues for both Nepali and foreign researchers; to connect the Nepali people with their own country's natural history, and to deliver an urgent message that the Nepalese themselves are trustees of this fragile natural heritage; to promote understanding of the evolution and diversity of flora and fauna of Nepal.
A good place to learn about birds, reptiles, plants and herbs of Nepal. However, place needs proper maintenance and care.
Entry ticket is Rs. 100 and Rs. 40 for locals.
On the way to/from (upward way) Swayambhunath Stupa and inside of Swayambhu Environmental Park. Small but have decent collection of animals, birds, insects, seeds, etc. Need only 30min to finish visiting. If want to take lots of photos, then should buy Still Camera ticket. Staff were nice and friendly. However, really need to expand the area and collection.
This place is truly amazing! I felt like the time stood still here. It reminded me of my biology classes back in the days when I was 12 years old. The entrance fee is very reasonable (100 rupee) and there are a lot of species to see! Going from plants to birds, insects, reptiles, funghi, butterflies, snakes, and so on. A really old school but nice museum!
It was amazing. I love the things displayed over there. Please do visit NHM, specially students.
Very sad that such a potentially interesting collection has been curated so badly. Exhibits badly lit and glass fogged up with dirt so contents hard to see. Moth eaten stuffed animals. Written descriptions often impossible to read. Beetles falling apart. Really quite disappointing. It does have a few gems like the fossilised elephant skull and most of the mammals found in Nepal.
Well have a great history and biography about lot's of thing's.
Great collection of birds and other animals too
A fine place to visit for a thorough study of various flora and fauna. By far the only place inside valley that has this variety of flora and fauna kept for study. Also, very useful for kids as everything is well classified.
Small venue with mostly taxidermy displays. Can get a sense of past and present Nepal wildlife.
A good place to learn about the local animals and plants. You will pass by this place as you exit the Swambunath Temple.
Natural History Museum is a Scientific Agency under CITES in context of Nepal.
You can see the protected Animals’ parts bones and other protected species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
A good place to be atleast once to see the things specially wildlife parts and Flora.
Its located in a place called Swayambhu in Kathmandu city of Nepal
Place is nice for students interested in knowing plants and animals species.it will be practical session even for school students to see living organism on different stages.near to Swoyambhunath stupa this museum visit will be interesting.

The First Collector
The first plant hunter or collector in Nepal was Sir Buchanan Hamilton (1802-3), a British resident in India, who collected many plants in Nepal from Swayambhu, Narayanhiti and Gosaikunda. In Swayambhu alone he discovered 27 type species and named the plant for the first time by their local Newar or Nepali names. Though many of these plants have already disappeared from this hillock, this need attention so as to conserve the natural environment and its indigenous plants. Since Natural History Museum is established in this site, it can take immediate measure for the conservation of this area with the cooperation from concerned authorities.
