Previously BICC (Birendra International Convention Centre) but is now called ICC (International Convention Centre). It is Established in 1993 AD under gratis by the People’s Republic of China. It is a unique blend of Nepalese, Chinese and modern architecture. This iconic beautiful building is established to organise international seminars in Nepal. It has a large complex with multi functional facilities. It is managed and operated by the Nepal Government. It also rent outs the complex for national & International bodies. In tje past it was rented to UNMIN (UN bodies) & at present it is rented to the federal Parliament of Nepal. But within a few months Parliament will shift to its new building in Singh Durbar.

The building was built by Late King Birendra during 90's with the help of chinese government.

During the time of late king Birendra there was a need of a hall that meets every requirement that fits to welcome International Guests for their accomodation. So, King thought the baneshwor was the right place to construct the building as there was airport in the left side and Everest Hotel in the right side.

The building has its own historical importance. The building is equipped with modern technologies and VIP Rooms. The building consists of 3 Big Halls for any event and 5 -6 Small Halls for small events. The building consists of VVIP Rooms that were used by Royal family for their accomodation during their visit.

With moving time the building was not able to be preserved as it was during Royal Era. The VVIP rooms is now being used for political leaders and most of the things are modified which has got its own history. With the lack of proper care the building has lost most its Royal Historical Accent. This building can be perfect example for one of the structure that lost its Historical Importance with time.

This place has become a part of major historical events in the country after the fall of Monarchy. This particular day was the day for which the building was used, to formulate the Constitution by the people’s elected leaders.

The Birendra International Convention Centre (ICC) is a major conference venue in central Nepal. Located in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu. It is also used as the Parliament House of Nepal. The complex uniquely blends Nepalese, Chinese and modern architecture to create a luxuriously decorated solid structure with multifunctional modern facilities. Established under gratis by China, the BICC was formally inaugurated in 1993.

The government of Nepal has finalised a plan to construct the country’s biggest convention centre, which will have a capacity of around 5,000 people, in Sano Thimi of Bhaktapur, east of Kathmandu. The Ministry of Urban Development says the Ministry has begun preparing a design for the centre. The Ministry’s spokesperson, Krishna Prasad Duwadi, says cost estimation and other details of the project will be finalised after the finalisation of design. After the government began using Naya Baneshwor-based Birendra International Convention Centre for parliamentary meetings, Nepal lacks a venue to host international events. The government and private agencies have been using five-star hotels for the events. Likewise, traders and businesspersons have also been demanding for a spacious place to host trade fairs and exhibitions. Government officials believe the construction will help the government cut down its spending on formal events and attract more foreign tourists and traders.

“ARMY barrack to ZOO”
I saw transformation of this place. It started with Army barrack.there use to be wire fence all around the place. I still remember almost everyday helicopters use to come and I use to run to that place just to view it from close range.
Then came BICC (Birendra International Convention Centre), there use to be lots of interesting events like CAN Info Tech, college programs, and parties. Many of my friends had their marriage reception party at this place. Got lots of memory.
Now there is ICC (International Convention Centre) also know as Parliament House. Here lots of wrong n sometimes good decisions are taken by our so called leaders.
1 day I was walking with my daughter and asked me about the place. Then I instantly said “zoo”. And again c asked “where are the animals? ”. Then I told her “they are inside that big white house, we can’t see from outside. Then again she asked “how many animals are there, papa? ” I said “601”. Now a days when my daughter pass through this way she sought “zoo! ”

Major convention center of Nepal. Used to host all major event before parliament took it as their meeting hall. Sad to say that Nepal do not have its own parliament house and it has taken ICC building on rent. And goverment spent millions of rupees as rent for this plAce.

It is famous and beautiful building in Kathmandu valley or in Nepal. Formal conference for the development of Nepal, thinking about the Nepal, makings laws, taking Nepal forward, making it a developed place for living, etc and etc should be done inside it. But today these things are not done inside it. Political parties do their corruption, bleming each other, etc

The centre of meetings and rendezvous of administration and politics in Nepal. It's the Parliamentary house of Nepal legislation. An iconic structure right in the heart of Kathmandu.
No personal visits, clearance level high.
